Smoothing Plane
Smoothing Plane
This Smoothing Plane is an essential hand tool for woodworking. It has the ability to smooth any difficult wood after it has been milled by hand or machine. It leaves a surface that requires little to no sanding. You can push or pull this handplane, making certain jobs easier, for example planing a table top. You can push the plane half way across the table and then pull it from the other end of the table, getting a full length shaving. It also means your body is more in balance.
It is 8 1/4” long x 2 5/8” wide x 1 1/2” high.
Weighs almost 2 lbs.
Option of an O1 Tool Steel (O1 TS) blade hardened to RC 62-64 OR a High Speed Steel (HSS) blade hardened to RC 62.
Blade pitch of 60 degrees which will be optimum on hard woods or difficult & reversing grain.
Blade is reversible to bevel up, effectively creating a blade pitch of 90 degrees, allowing the plane to be used as a scraper. It’s two tools in one!
We recommend choosing the HSS if you wish to reverse the blade to bevel up and use the plane as a cabinet scraper, as it will hold its edge longer under heat. However, it will take longer to sharpen.
Handle is removable on a taper.
The blade is 3 7/8” long x 2” wide x 1/4” thick.
The plane body is made from Gidgee, a very dense and stable Australian wood.
