Tail Vise
Tail Vise
HNT Gordon’s Tail Vise is designed to hold any piece of wood flat on the top of your work bench. It can be retrofit to any shop bench (in any position on the top) without interfering with the integrity of the top.
Simple installation.
The knob is 1 1/4” in diameter, knurled for grip. You will find this knob allows for quick movement with plenty of grip to tighten the vise when holding wood.
100 mm Tail Vise: The vise body is a hefty 11” (280 mm) long x 1 1/4” wide x 1 3/8” high with a 5/8" 6 TPI ACME thread for a quick moving action. It gives you about 4” of travel so you would need to space your bench dog holes at 4” or less. Weighs 2.8 lbs.
150 mm Tail Vise: The vise body is a hefty 14 1/2” (370 mm) long x 1 1/4” wide x 1 3/8” high with a 5/8" 6 TPI ACME thread for a quick moving action. It gives you about 6” of travel so you would need to space your bench dog holes at 6” or less. Weighs 3.5 lbs.
The vise comes with one solid brass dog that is 1/4" high for low profile work. Other size dogs are available or you can make them to suit using 1/2" brass rod or solid wood.
Comes with installation guide.
You will need to make a wooden cover plate to go over the top of the vise. This is planed level with the top. If your bench top is thin, this is no problem as you simply make up some wooden spacers and glue them under where the vise is to be fitted.
