Extra-Fancy Depth Gauge
Extra-Fancy Depth Gauge
What’s this? Ah yes! Why it’s none other than the Kellogg Fine Tools Extra-Fancy Depth Gauge! What does it do? More like what doesn’t it do! It’ll feed your cat and walk your dog, sweep your floor and do your taxes. And it will do it all with a smile on its lips and a spring in its step.
Just kidding. The Extra-Fancy Depth Gauge, despite its deeply misleading name, will do absolutely none of those things. What it will do, however, is measure things. Specifically, small things, where a normal adjustable square or marking gauge might be too clunky or annoying (or just impossible) to reach. Need to check a dowel hole or mortise before a glue-up? Check. Need to check the depth of a hinge mortise inside a cabinet? Check. Want to double-check you’re not about to drill through that beautiful tabletop you are just about to install? Check-check. It’s a great tool to keep in your apron pocket, and the more you use it, the more uses you’ll find for it.
To use the gauge, simply unscrew the top about a quarter-turn, and let the depth rod drop into position. Fix the rod into place by re-tightening the cap, and you’re good to go.
The Gauge itself is machined from solid brass and stainless steel. The body is 3/4”Ø x 1.5” long, and the depth rod is 3” long. The tool has a really excellent heft to it in your hand, and will measure anything over about 3/32” in diameter x 2.5” deep. (Please note that the Depth Gauge has no markings on it, so if you need hard numbers you will need to check the depth rod against a ruler.) The first batch is a numbered edition of 100.
Designed, manufactured, and assembled entirely in Houston, Texas, USA.
