Accu-Burr™ Card Scraper with Ground Edges
Accu-Burr™ Card Scraper with Ground Edges
Break free from the tyranny of sandpaper
The most humble of tools, the versatile card scraper is an oft-overlooked tool that merits a place of honor in every workshop (and, yes, that includes shops dominated by power tools). From removing planer marks to taming wild grain and leveling finishes, a card scraper is indispensable at every stage of a woodworking project.
Cut from blue-tempered 1095 spring steel, these Accu-Burr™ scrapers are among the finest for sale today. With an RC hardness of 48-51, they are durable, yet easily sharpened with conventional tools.
After cutting the scrapers to size, the long edges are surface ground. These edges can be used as-is* for very fine scraping, or prepared for heavier use by turning a burr with the Accu-Burr™ carbide burnisher.
As anyone who has used a card scraper can attest, the working edge rapidly heats up with vigorous use. To protect your thumbs, each card scraper comes with a Flux-Cϕϕl card scraper magnet. These magnets are the thickest Accu-Burr could find, and do an admirable job of drawing out and dissipating the heat generated during even the heaviest scraping sessions.
The card scraper is 0.025" thick, 2 1/2" tall, and 6" long, a good size and thickness for general purpose scraping.
*Although the edges of the card scraper come surface ground, the scraper will benefit from a quick honing of the face on a fine stone before the first use (the bluing conveniently tracks your progress in this task).
